How to make research paper?

The research paper will be useful for students at high school or at a college level. The difference between an assignment and a thesis paper is that the assignment is a small range of research with only minimum sources and thesis is a collection of unlimited sources. To create your research paper, you have to consider doing the following steps despite the research level:

Decide on a Topic

Choose a topic of your own interest. One who provides you with paper can also provide you with a topic, if you get a chance of choosing topic by your own then chose it according to your interest. Choose a topic which has adequate information already which makes your research work easier.

Write a Thesis Statement

A thesis statement holds the main concept or the idea of the research and it also conveys about the view of author on the topic. The statement you write for your thesis should reach the common readers also in a clear cut way. The reader should understand the author’s perspective after reading the thesis statement.

Example: Consider this thesis statement which is a first draft “many neighbours have their codes of conduct to resident”. This statement does not provide any meaning for the topic. If you gather enough necessary information about your topic and narrow down the area, you can craft a good thesis statement and also reasons to support it.

Revised sentence: “Values of conduct is necessary for a community in latest developments, which can improve values of home, can improve safety and also improves involvement of community”.

Find Multiple Credible Resources

It is advisable to select a source that is more credible among the plenty of sources available such as educational websites, online videos, libraries, newspapers, scientific journals and many more. Select a credible source like how an academic scholar or a formal researcher would choose it. You can add more credible sources to your research to make it more credible.

Organize the Information

After collecting all the necessary information which is required to argue the thesis statement, try to compile them. Make subtopics from your main research topic. For example, you ate going to write a research paper regarding the American Revolution then you can split the topic into different sections such as key events and key figures. Whenever you are collecting information make note of the source from where you got them, so that it will help you in doing citation.

Write the Outline

Start writing your research paper with a thesis statement then move on to the key points which supports your statement. To guide yourself towards your goal you might need to create an outline for writing the research paper. The important motive of the outline which has a parallel structure is that of helping you write your paper. Don’t forget to mention about the citation. You can change your outline at any time as per your convenience. Make use of elements which can help you write in a better way than relying on the consistent format and style.

Writing Intro

The introduction part should start with an attractive key word which should grab the attention of reader. Then the further sections of your paper explain about the main part of the topic. It should elaborate about the purpose of your research and about the thing you are trying to prove. The thesis statement will be present in introduction section at last.

Write the Body Paragraphs

It has key points, which supports the thesis statement that is in the body paragraph. Elaborate about the experiment that you have done and how will they support your statement. You can get this information from the outline directly. Explain about your topic in a way which the reader can gain a good knowledge about the background information and also try to clear their queries regarding the subject. Every point you use here should support your statement of thesis.

Write a Conclusion

The conclusion of your paper should redefine your thesis statement. It should not be a detailed version like other paragraphs, instead be general. Before moving on to write a summary, which supports your thesis statement, restate the thesis statement. When you are finishing conclusion, end it with a sentence which defines your overall research.

List your Resources

Basically it should be the last page of your research paper. It contains the table of resources, which you have used for your research purpose. The title of this page may vary which depends on the style you use for citation. If you use APA style then your tile will be “References page”, and if you use Chicago style then the title will be “Bibliography”. The title may vary with style, but the content inside it will be, the name of the author, their research title and the publication date. The resources should be listed according to alphabetical order.

Edit and Revise

Every project requires revising and editing. While writing a research paper, it is very much essential. If you are interested in choosing editing as your career then try to improve your skills which include grammar, communication and language. Editing will work on the sentence framing and revising keep eye on the flow of information and smooth transitions between paragraphs. Editing and writing have many differences between them, and also have some matching features. The editor professionals either choose it because of their own interest or promoted as editors from the writing profession. To be an editor you should be more oriented to detail, you should have interest in learning structure of a language and also should be meticulous.

Editing

  • Know where to use a verb
  • Do capitalizing
  • Check the spelling
  • Correct punctuation error

Revising

  • Try to add more details
  • Form correct structure of sentence
  • Proper arrangement of paragraphs and sentences
  • Avoid details that is not required

Citing resources

Citing of sources is very important. You should do it in your whole paper and also at the end where all citations should me mentioned separately. Researchers usually follow citation formats which is more common, that are Modern Language Association MLA and American Psychological Association APA for citing resources. The following are examples of citing resources.

In-text citations: It is used to denote in which part you have used specific information collected from the source.

Narrative citation: It involves the date, when the research is conducted inside parentheses after the name of the author who had done the research.

Example: “Hawkins (2022) states that fair will not mean to equal always”.

Parenthetical Citation: It involves citing of both the authors name and the date on which research is conducted inside the parentheses after the research sentence.

Example: Equal is not the synonym of fair (Hawkins, 2022)
